Jim Morrison’s Last U.S. Home ~ Stay There!

Jim slept hereLarry loves experiences, large and small. So when this hit his radar, he was all over it – you can rent Jim Morrison’s West Hollywood apartment. Where Jim and Pamela lived and fought and slept around. Their last U.S. abode before Paris…

Note to non-boomers: Jim Morrison was the boozy, druggy, brilliant lead singer and lyricist of rock band, The Doors. Morrison died in Paris in 1971 at age 27, heroin overdose. His final resting place is famed Pere Lachaise cemetery where his grave is often trashed by Doors fans. When in Paris, it’s a don’t miss if you came of age in the early 70s.

Back here at home, the apartment is an unassuming, typical Hollywood Spanish, located a block off Santa Monica Boulevard. Five units in the building have monthly tenants. The sixth, Jim’s is available to rent one night, a week, a month.

Welcome2 bedrooms, 1 + 1/4 bath, kitchen, dining room, living room. When you arrive, booklets help you soak up the history.  Are there ghosts? Maybe.

Some STRICT rules help not upset neighbors, so read the stuff closely.

We shared a Saturday overnight with friends, Nev and Cindy, and had a patio party with a few more pals – ones with guitars! As is our style, “partying” was complete by 9 PM, LOL.

Cindy ROCKED with makeup, hair along with custom themed cupcakes from Feast Catering.

CupcakesVal and Frank gifted us cool Jim Morrison t-shirts and brought the champagne. Peace signs, fringe vests, velvet pants, tie dye bedecked our little group of {aging} flower children.

Gelson’s is so close, we walked there four times for snacks, pizza, wine, coffee. There are plenty of restaurants within walking distance. Parking: if you can arrive in ONE CAR, best option, as there is only one space. The patio is quiet, private for guitar playing and singing. The apartment is comfortable. Our weather was glorious California for mid-March, felt like summer. All in all, very good times.

Zoe, I have to admit that we had a real struggle with the woman, too. Very paranoid and grumpy. And she has a webcam on the property to watch behavior. But the experience was still pretty cool.

This place is bullshit. They make it so difficult, charge $20 to walk around the outside of the building. The woman running the tours is extremely rude.

Pere Lachaise is definitely worth the trip to visit in Paris. Jim and I went there on a previous Paris visit. The purpose wasn’t to view Jim Morrison’s grave (though we did), but to be shown the plot my brother-in-law’s parents had bought.

The cemetery reminds me a lot of the ones in New Orleans, but with gentle hills.
