A split pea side dish that’s also a vegan main entrée – it’s this surprise called Fava.  The pools of lemon juice and Greek olive oil give you a visible idea of the flavor profile here, then you add those yummy capers.

Feta Psiti – Greek Oven Baked Feta

Baked-feta.jpg

Feta is the flavor of Greece.  For the uninitiated, it’s slightly pungent, on the dryer side, crumbly, soft, and versatile as all get-out.  This night, we made Psiti – Oven Baked Feta, an appetizer served with crusty bread.

Greek Chicken Frikase–Yes I Spelled That Right

Chicken-lemon-sauce-swirling_thumb.jpg

This Frikase is not Fricassee. This Frikase recipe is Greek – a super tender chicken dish cooked up with romaine lettuce, then swirled (NOT stirred) with a lip-smacking egg lemon sauce. Even reheated two days later, it was still yummy. I just love lemon-flavored Greek eats.

Warm Greek-Style Lamb Salad

Warm-Lamb-Salad.jpg

Warm Greek-Style Lamb Salad. I’ve posted about our Gourmet Club before; themed dinner parties where four couples cook. Apologies to hosts Ricki and John, I hijacked this evening’s theme because a shipment of Superior Farms American lamb was coming and, whoa, it was a generous supply. A rack, a leg and ground lamb. Ricki […]

Gorgeous Green Greek-ish Salad

Gorgeous-Green-Greek-Salad.jpg

Some lovely things, I’ll just never be in real life — Southern is one. Another is Greek. I love Greeks. My high school/college posse included two Greek brothers, John and George, who provided a peek into an ethos far removed from mine. They may have been native Californians, but they were GREEK. Loud. Multi-generational home. […]

Gourmet Club dinner: GREEK. Four couples, each once yearly hosts a “theme” meal at their home. Greek Potato Salad from LA Greekfest

GreekPotatoSalad.jpg

Some cooks need an actual recipe to feel comfortable, so this was the PERFECT demo to help break free from those shackles.  LA Greekfest instructors Akrevoe Emmanouilides and Pitsa Captain were “a little of this, a little of that” cooks, and the audience ate it up. By the end of the salad session, we all […]

Garbanzo, Onion and Tomato Salad from LA Greekfest

GreekGarbanzoTomatoOnionFetaSalad.jpg

OPA! For years, I’ve wanted to attend Greekfest at LA’s stunning St. Sophia’s Greek Orthodox Cathedral. I’m a native Angelino, yet had only been inside once before for the wedding of our favorite Greek, Helen. Larry’s been there often; his high school, Loyola, is next door.  No waiting for the right year, I attended yesterday, […]
