Everyone Should Take A Cruise One Day

Post image for Everyone Should Take A Cruise One Day

Cup o’ tea in the Todd English restaurant aboard the Cunard Queen Victoria Ocean Liner. It’s been some time since we cruised, and this wasn’t one of them. We were docked.

Larry will tell you, I am a Cruise Snot. It’s his fault. When we first started dating, Larry worked for an advertising agency that had a major cruise line client. We took several trips at “agency” rates (read: deep discounts) during an era when cruising was expensive, elegant, dress-up, special, elitist! The industry then evolved to meet the growing Love Boat demand, prices dropped, cruises became casual, people brought KIDS, and I gave it up. I had become a Cruise Snot.

CollageYet… there ARE Old World Elegant ocean liners out there, and we were recently treated to tour one: Cunard’s Queen Victoria Ocean Liner. Larry and I attended an exclusive Media Luncheon featuring the cuisine of hunky Chef Todd English. Fellow bloggers Erika of In Erika’s Kitchen, Lynne of Cook & Be Merry (photo credit for the shot of me with the teacup), Cathy & Vernon of Gastronomy were there along with Babette from Bake Space and a number of other folks I assume were restaurant critics.

IMG_3972Listen, while I am a Cruise Snot, I’m NOT a food snot. This isn’t a restaurant review. I slurped down practically every morsel of that lunch, had a meet & greet with Chef Todd (photo, right. Handsome as promised but Larry is MORE handsome), then achieved what I really wanted – an extensive tour of this glam ship before it cast off.

I think it fits my Cruise Snot personality. Upscale. A zillion places to be as busy or as peaceful as I want. Shops. Casino. Spa. Bars. Dance floors. Theaters. Library. The ship was getting ready to sail, all passengers were going through their muster drill and I saw NOT ONE KID.  *smile*

The good news is, there is a ship out there that matches practically any traveler’s style. From inexpensive party trips where the atmosphere is akin to Spring Break, to ships JUST for families (stay on those, please), and elegant lines {Cunard, apparently!} for snots like me. You may feel free to tell ME to stay on my ship, too. Tell me what you think!

I can appreciate where you are coming from…I , too , am a cruise snot! KIDS do not belong on the same boat as me. I was going to vote for Larry, but those chocolate pictures kinda made me lose my train of thought…
