On the hoof again. Larry and I love the kind of activity that combines walking + touring + eating. This Farmers Market Walking Food Tour by Melting Pot Tours was right up our alley. In fact, this was our second MPT, our first was a few months back when we took their great Walking Food Tour of Old Pasadena.
Meeting at 9:30 AM under the original clock tower were Angelinos, OC-ers, Canadians and British folk. Our group was a great size, a Baker’s Dozen. Make sure you are swift on your feet, it is a quick-paced, jam-packed, foodie filled morning.
No, I won’t give the full itinerary (spoils the surprise). But suffice to say, when you start a tour with incredible donuts, it’s a good day. We picked up history, architecture, agriculture, Hollywood insights and more about our LA treasuredl Farmers Market. Three full hours not only covered the Market, but also down 3rd street for a full mile each way of more, more, more.
The tour is $49 a person. You will learn about and eat classics (airy macarones, top photo), good eats (those donuts), a variety of ethnic bites, beverages, candies, hot-from-the-oven breads, exclusive foods (the Caviar Cheese at Monsieur Marcel was brilliant), stopping approximately every third place for big bites. Tourguide Diane Scalia is an incredible host, and her pace of talking and walking was perfect.

I have often marveled at those colorful Macarones from The Original Farmers Market. So pretty! But the caviar cheese in new to me. Must check it out! GREG
Patti – I grew up in and around the Farmers Market and sometimes miss the old neighborhood a lot. Thanks for a little taste of it. : )
